OBAMA'S IMPORTANT LEGISLATION: LUGAR-OBAMA BILL

Despite Chris Matthew's obnoxious badgering of an Obama supporter on his show, "What legislation has he passed? What legislation has he passed!?" Obama has sponsored some essential legislation in his short time in the Senate. Please read below.

Lugar-Obama Nonproliferation Legislation Signed into Law by the President
Thursday, January 11, 2007

WASHINGTON – President Bush today signed the Lugar-Obama proliferation and threat reduction initiative into law.

Authored by U.S. Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL), the Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction.

"The United States should do more to eliminate conventional weapons stockpiles and assist other nations in detecting and interdicting weapons of mass destruction. We believe that these functions are underfunded, fragmented and in need of high-level support," said Lugar, Republican leader of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

About Barack Obama
United States Senator for Illinois

Barack Obama has dedicated his life to public service as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and leader in the Illinois state Senate. Obama now continues his fight for working families following his recent election to the United States Senate.

Sworn into office January 4, 2005, Senator Obama serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which oversees our nation’s health care, schools, employment, and retirement programs. He is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, which plays a vital role in shaping American policy around the world, including our policy in Iraq. And Senator Obama serves on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, which is focused on providing our brave veterans with the care and services they deserve. In 2005 and 2006, he served on the Environment and Public Works Committee, which safeguards our environment and provides funding for our highways.

During his eight years in the Illinois state Senate, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. Obama also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama enlisted the support of law enforcement officials to draft legislation requiring the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

Obama is especially proud of being a husband and father of two daughters, Malia, 9 and Sasha, 6. Obama and his wife, Michelle, married in 1992 and live on Chicago’s South Side where they attend Trinity United Church of Christ.

Barack Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, in Hawaii to Barack Obama, Sr. and Ann Dunham. Obama graduated from Columbia University in 1983, and moved to Chicago in 1985 to work for a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment. In 1991, Obama graduated from Harvard Law School where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review.

From Media Matters: Olbermann awarded Coulter "Worst Person" "bronze" for "B. Hussein Obama" references, and said, "Then we put her on this network today so she could do it again"

Summary: MSNBC host Keith Olbermann awarded right-wing pundit Ann Coulter the "bronze" in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment for her repeated references to Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama as "B. Hussein Obama" and "President Hussein" during an appearance on Fox News' Your World. Referring to an earlier appearance on MSNBC, he also said: "Then we put her on this network today so she could do it again."

On the February 14 edition of MSBNC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann awarded right-wing pundit Ann Coulter the "bronze" in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment for her reference to Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama as "B. Hussein Obama" five separate times and as "President Hussein" during a February 13 appearance on Fox News' Your World, as Media Matters for America documented. Olbermann then stated, "Then we put her on this network today so she could do it again."

Olbermann named Laura Ingraham the "runner-up" for stating on the February 13 edition of her nationally syndicated radio show that President Bush "welcomed [Rev.] Al Sharpton to the White House. I hope they nailed down all the valuables." Olbermann added, referring to Ingraham: "I know you and Coulter think you're satirists, but you do realize that if you're really not racist, you are enabling racism there."

Olbermann named Fox News Radio's Tom Sullivan, host of The Tom Sullivan Show, the "Worst Person" "winner" for playing a "side-by-side comparison" of an Adolf Hitler speech and an Obama speech on his February 11 broadcast.

THIS PHOTO SAYS IT ALL

From the February 14 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: Richard Lewis on Valentine's Day, and President Bush, sit well back from your TV, please. He's next, but first time for our No. 2 story tonight, Countdown's "Worst Persons in the World."

The bronze to Coultergeist -- went on Fixed News and called Senator Obama, quote, "B. Hussein Obama" five times. The host asked her why she was calling him that, and he mentioned it then a sixth time, then she referred to him as "President Hussein."

Then we put her on this network today so she could do it again. For the record, if you want to try her trick and call her by her first initial and her middle name, it's close. Her middle initial is "H," but she'd only be A. Hart Coulter.

Runner-up, Laura Ingraham. reporting on her radio show that the president had, quote, "welcomed Al Sharpton to the White House. I hope they nailed down all the valuables." And adding, quote, "I can't believe they let him in the front door there at Black History Month." I know you and Coulter think you're satirists, but you do realize that if you're really not racist, you are enabling racism there.

But our winner, Tom Sullivan, who apparently does a show for Fixed Radio. When a caller suggested that Senator Obama's speeches reminded him of the speeches of Adolf Hitler, Sullivan then alternated clips from a Hitler speech and an Obama speech, played them consecutively on national radio. When another caller said it was unacceptable to compare Obama to Hitler, Sullivan said he wasn't, he was just noting, quote, "Adolf Hitler was able to gather a country of people and get them excited about whatever it was that he is talking to them about. He was a very fiery, enigmatic. ... And I asked the guy, I said: 'Are you saying that Obama is like Hitler?' And he said, 'No, it's the speaking style, that's all.' And the speaking style is actually kind of similar."

So, you're not comparing Obama to Hitler, but you are comparing Obama's speaking style to Hitler's speaking style. So, you're insisting you're not comparing them in any way, except when you are comparing them in that way.

Tom Sullivan of Fox Noise Radio, today's "Worst Person in the World."

THE NEW ENLIGHTENMENT

Ann Coulter, a "Perfected Christian"

Ann Coulter's remark that Christians want Jews to be "perfected" proves she knows nothing about Christianity. Maybe she didn't mean it the way it sounded, but I have done enough research on Coulter to know she prefers a "cream-colored" ethnically cleansed population of "non-swarthy" types. Her comment that Jews need to be perfected is the kind of talk that sparked the Holocaust.

TOMORROW ON HBO: "RUN, GRANNY, RUN" follows the unique experience of 94-year-old Doris "Granny" D. Read the amazing new book "THE CONSERVATIVES HAVE NO CLOTHES: Why Right-Wing Ideas Keep Failing" by Greg Anrig, Vice President of Programs at the Century Foundation. We just interviewed him and you can listen in the archives at: Basham and Cornell Progressive Talk Radio The Basham and Cornell Show broadcasts weekday mornings at 8 a.m. Pacific (11 a.m. Eastern) on AM 1230 KLAV in Las Vegas.

Three items to discuss:

1. Blackwater down: Is Blackwater prolonging the war in Iraq? Iraqis want them out of Iraq. Erik Prince's Blackwater Mercenery Army was paid over $300 million of our taxpayer dollars
2. Wiretapping set in place PRIOR to 9/11
3. Ann Coulter's remarks and her enablers in the media.

Blackwater is hurting our troops. From ThinkProgress.org: "Given the choice, the right-wingnuts always choose Blackwater over our own troops. They're not on the same side, and haven't been ever... The whole "screw them" thing four years ago was exactly that -- the wingers were more outraged over four Blackwater mercenaries killed than they were about the five Marines that had died that very same day... I was pissed that the sacrifice of those Marines merited less attention that those of a private, profit-motivated, unaccountable militia.

It's always been clear where the US military has stood in regards to the mercenaries. Soldiers complain about them:

"They act like they're God's gift to combat operations" complained one soldier to me, "Swanning around with weapons and equipment every bit as powerful as anything in our armoury, but without any of the legal framework that we have to work within. They're rude, aggressive and to be honest, their attitudes piss us guys off so I dread to think how the Iraqis view them".

The top brass have been complaining about their ill effect for years:

In the post-9/11 world, demand for the commandos is not only soaring within the military. Private firms and government organizations - including the CIA - are luring away troops with bigger salaries. "It is a very lucrative opportunity right now for special operations folks to get out and take very high-paying jobs" with private security firms, says General Brown. A 20-year veteran leaving Special Operations receives about $23,000 in retirement pay, but can earn $100,000 to $200,000 in private industry, military officials say.

With no end to the demand in sight, the military must carefully allocate SOF while increasing their ranks. To fill the current gap, it is accepting added risks with less experienced forces.

Blackwater in Iraq: Killing for Profit By Saul Landau

The words "Support Our Troops" stain the rear bumpers of thousands of cars. The slogan, however, conceals a more pernicious demand: "Support Our Mercenaries." Yes, in Iraq, the mercenaries--euphemistically called "paid contractors"--outnumber US troops, 180,000 to 160,000. These contractors do more than provide armed security for US personnel. They do chores that previously belonged to regular army staff.

Private security companies employ for high pay former US soldiers, ex-kidnappers and torturers from Pinochet's secret police, death squad heavies from a variety of Central and South American countries and a few leftover South African apartheid thugs as well. The companies collect billions from US taxpayers. A typical U.S. soldier serving in Iraq makes about: $57 a day. The estimated daily take for a Blackwater security guard there runs between $500- $600. (FACING SOUTH A News and Politics Report Sept. 26, 2007)

****

From Lydia: There was a time when I was a Republican, but that was before I got sober. It was when I was in my ego stage: very self-centered and full of myself. And in fear of losing what I had or not getting what I wanted. As we shed our ego, we become more compassionate toward others, more concerned about social justice and saving our earth and helping other flawed humans — not judging them, but helping them.

I am reprinting this letter from Dennis Taylor of Phoenix, Arizona. I think this man is very intuitive — which we are all capable of being when we open our minds.

"Dear Lydia, I have to share something that my wife said after reading your blog. Without sounding flakey…I’m convinced that my wife is correct and that this goes hand in hand with your statement regarding the next frontier being the center or the middle. We both have a strong internal sense of something impending that is difficult to explain. A feeling that many of us are going to be called to stand out for what is right and rescue the Constitution of the USA so that the country can get back to being a democracy. It seems like while America slept, we were slowly and silently robbed of Democracy. The irony is the fact that so many people who call themselves Christian as well as conservative played a big role in America silently surrendering Democracy to those who regard the constitution as a mere technicality to work around in order to promote their self-serving agendas.
Respectfully, Dennis Taylor

Tribal divisions and ethnic chauvinism seem so primitive. We can't survive without each other. It's also pretty clear that storing up material treasures on earth is useless. We are learning not to depend on material sustenance, but to depend on charity. Love for our fellow man -- there is nothing else worth talking about. And that is why the Gate is narrow: it's hard to love your enemies -- and I'm not just talking about terrorists. It's hard to love people you can't stand to be in the same room with. With my relatives this weekend, I kept asking myself: "How can I be of love and service to people who are incredibly annoying?" Very few will make it through this gate of loving their enemies, not fighting, and embracing those morally bankrupt people who disgust, offend and threaten them. But that's what we are called to do, and that's why the Way is narrow.

I want to start focusing on all the good we can do. Look at this incredible universe – it would take a blind slug not to see God everywhere. This is heaven and it is here now, if we choose to see it. I was at a peacock farm with my kids, chasing peacocks all over the place -- and in the design of a peacock's feathers, you see God’s artistry. In the calligraphy of a Monarch butterfly you see perfection. And in a baby's face, you see heaven. Why do people debate whether or not God exists when God is simply love? Who can argue with love, kindness, compassion? Asking to prove the existence of God is like asking to prove you love your kids. I actually believe that Einstein was on the cusp of proving God through science, for he said that 'goodness, truth and beauty are laws of the universe'; hence God and science are not mutually exclusive.

I also love Wayne Dyer's statement that "you'll see it when you BELIEVE it" and "the antidote to depression is kindness". One act of kindness to another human being is an anti-depressant; it actually raises your Serotonin levels. An observer of an act of kindness also gets a Serotonin boost. If everyone in America was engaged in volunteering, in "love and service" work, we wouldn't be thinking about ourselves or what we lack -- and we wouldn't be depressed. Depression is an epidemic in this country and the pharmaceutical companies love promoting our fears & obsessions. Getting out of our self-centered fear by helping others works every time.

My brilliant friend Chaz and I were discussing how the world has changed and how odd it is that something we thought was a given, makes so much sense to us, but make so little sense to right-wingers, and he said that if we weren't saying the truth, it wouldn't upset so many people. Kind of like the film "Good Night and Good Luck" about Edward R. Murrow's battle with McCarthy. He also said that "a frog never jumps out of a pan if you turn the heat up slowly." Which is what the people in power are doing to middle-class Americans: turning the heat up and taking away our earnings, choices and freedoms in such gradual degrees that we barely notice until it's too late.

Another letter from a fan: "I am convinced that if Jesus Christ almighty were to come pay us a visit incarnate today, he would have one thing to say to many of the religious right-wing and republican party as well as a result of the mess they have made. He would call them a 'brood of vipers,' which is what he called the Pharisees of his time. These very same people who did everything in their power to rake Bill Clinton over the coals for an indiscretion with a Whitehouse Intern seem to have absolutely no problem with telling lies, half truths and hiding Bush’s sins and crimes. It’s a sad but true statement when ya consider the fact that Nixon got impeached for things far less offensive then the crimes that Bush is flat out guilty of both locally and internationally..."

"I’m concerned about the future of this country as a result of the dangerous trend of growing lies and deception that the Bush administration and vicious mouthpieces like Ann Coulter and Bill O’ Reilly. Over the course of the last five years, people like this have effectively redefined the word “liberal” to mean a lot of things that it simply is not and never was. Liberal is actually a very positive and progressive term when examined under the light of honesty. However, in the hands of corrupt people like Bush, O’ Reilly and Coulter, it has been used to mislead the American public. Regretfully, they have used the stupidity of most Americans to believe that liberal is something bad, immoral, baby murdering and anti-Christian."

AMERICAN PSYCHO TED NUGENT is a DRAFT DODGER TOO

Force always attracts men of low morality.
Albert Einstein

Why isn't Ted Nugent in jail? He should be arrested for threatening the lives of public servants, and he should be fined for waving automatic weapons around in a public place, advocating killing humans for sport, as a form of pornographic violence. We need to make sure people like this are held responsible for their anti-American unpatriotic, treasonous behavior. Are our children feel safe with this monster loose on the streets? He is the male Ann Coulter, but with even more testosterone. And SHAME on Sean Hannity for not condemning these remarks.

Warning: the language in the article below is not appropriate for children or any living, moral creature.

Gonzo is gone, and if you don't know why, I'll list some of his crimes at the end of this article tomorrow. But not enough attention has been paid to Ted Nugent, a true representative of the Bush-Cheney administration. I know it's sort of taboo to write about such a sad joke as Nugent -- but he so perfectly represents the extreme right-wingers who have taken over our civilized society.

Study history Ted: when man enjoys killing animals for sport (as Cheney does, and Bush did as a child) society begins to die. It's not a good sign.

Facing a draft, Nugent bravely wet his pants
Rocker is all talk as he calls Obama, Hillary vile names

August 27, 2007
BY RICHARD ROEPER Sun-Times Columnist
So Ted Nugent roams a concert stage while toting automatic weapons, calls Barack Obama "a piece of -----" and says he told Obama to suck on one of his machine-guns. He also calls Hillary Clinton a "worthless bitch" and Dianne Feinstein a "worthless whore."

That Nugent, he's a man's man. He talks the talk and walks the walk, right?

Except when it was time to register for the draft during the Vietnam era. By his own admission, Nugent stopped all forms of personal hygiene for a month and showed up for his draft board physical in pants caked with his own urine and feces, winning a deferment. Creative!

Ah, but that was a long time ago. Nugent isn't just a washed-up rocker -- he's a right-wing madman who's not afraid to call out some of the leading Democrats in language so vile it makes the Dixie Chick Natalie Maines' comments about President Bush sound like a love poem.

You'd think even someone such as Sean Hannity would dismiss Nugent as a macho clown, desperate for attention.

Yeah, right.

In a discussion on his show last week, Hannity refused to condemn Nugent's remarks, saying, "I like Ted Nugent . . . he's a friend of mine," and even laughing loudly as Alan Colmes read the transcript of some of Nugent's remarks.

Funny. I don't remember Hannity being so cavalier about the Dixie Chicks went they criticized Bush.

Not that he's operating under a double standard or anything.

IMPEACH CHENEY * IS ANN COULTER THE ANTI-CHRIST?

SATURDAY MORNING TUNE IN LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS and LOS ANGELES to our show BASHAM AND CORNELL PROGRESSIVE TALK
from 9 - 10 a.m. We broadcast live and we're taking calls today, so don't be afraid to call in! Check out our website for the phone numbers. Thanks! If you miss the show, go to our website and click on the link to hear the entire show in the archives.

(Political Animal) FEIN: IMPEACH CHENEY....As part of the Washington Post's multi-part profile on Dick Cheney, Bruce Fein, an associate deputy attorney general under President Ronald Reagan, accused the Vice President of having made "monarchical claims" on power.

In an interesting Slate piece, Fein, a self-identified conservative, follows up on these concerns and explicitly calls for Cheney's impeachment.

In grasping and exercising presidential powers, Cheney has dulled political accountability and concocted theories for evading the law and Constitution that would have embarrassed King George III. The most recent invention we know of is the vice president's insistence that an executive order governing the handling of classified information in the executive branch does not reach his office because he also serves as president of the Senate. In other words, the vice president is a unique legislative-executive creature standing above and beyond the Constitution. The House judiciary committee should commence an impeachment inquiry. As Alexander Hamilton advised in the Federalist Papers, an impeachable offense is a political crime against the nation. Cheney's multiple crimes against the Constitution clearly qualify. (CBS News)

I do not believe in an anthropomorphic God nor do I believe in a physical anti-Christ — but I believe that fundamentalism itself, the kind Ann Coulter practices, is un-Christian. This is anti-Christ thought.

And Elizabeth Ewards is my hero.

Ann Coulter was on Chris Matthews today, and Elizabeth Edwards called in to ask her to stop making personal, hateful attacks against her husband, John Edwards (yesterday on GMA, Coulter said she will not call Edwards the "f" word anymore, but she will say she wishes he was killed in a terrorist attack... and it doesn't matter that she was trying to make fun of Bill Maher in this, her words are those of a corrupt, evil, low life who cannot use her brain for anything productive.

I am so sick of this monster getting attention for her extermination speak.

Ann Coulter is the exact opposite of a true Christian, and is actually one of the reasons our society is falling apart. She supports the war in Iraq and couldn't care less about civilian casualties, but loathes Bush now because of his "amnesty" bill. Christ, if he were alive today, would have supported the exact reverse of Coulter's position.

"I had a very happy childhood – nothing conflicted, lots of friends, lots of boyfriends, athletic," she said. In the seventh grade her beagle, Tiger, died. "That was the only bad thing that ever happened to me."

Wow! This explains it all. This makes the case for Democrats. If not having suffered in life makes one as brittle and spiteful as Ann Coulter, a “Republican,” then it stands to reason that suffering in life makes one more compassionate, more empathetic and hence more connected to the human race! Hence, a Democrat.

I think I detect “suffering envy” in Coulter. She is actually jealous of those who have loved and lost.

I have a solution: get married, have kids and get a family life. Care about someone other than yourself. Then you can join the human race and stop inflicting your heinously distorted views on others you have nothing in common with. Life is messy: people cry, make mistakes, act like jerks, care about each other. Not everyone is the enemy. In fact, even the enemy can become a friend. Take my husband for example.

Her premise is that it's wrong to use your suffering. My question to Coulter is, why are you so against understanding “the other” and personal history? Our suffering often deepens us, defines us, and helps us grow into truly empathetic souls. As a wise man once said, “pain is the touchstone of all spiritual progress.” Wouldn't it have been better for George Bush to have actually been through some tragedies in life, so he could relate to fellow human beings, instead of admittedly being so estranged from the tragedy in New Orleans? Bush admitted he has no idea how the poor of New Orleans felt, for he had never had a moment in his life when he was deprived. I would rather have a president who has actually been through personal trials, and was deepened by them.

Losing a child, as John Edwards did, often changes a person; it is the defining moment in a parent's life. Nothing is ever the same after losing a child.

So tell us Ann, what childhood abuse are you hiding? Why have you so little empathy and “compassion” – that corney, hokey quality you revile in Democrats? I’m sorry, but “compassion” is not a dirty word. Caring about your fellow man is not a wimpy quality unveiled just to get votes. I know you and Glen Beck have a special hatred for people who have lost loved ones, especially 911 widows and Katrina victims.

You cringe when Angelina Jolie or Miss Universe sounds sappy, but there is something refreshing about people stating out loud that they want to change the world by helping others. Maybe it doesn't sound “cool” to your brand of SS Storm Trooper, but it is exactly what American kids need to hear: beautiful women pleading for charitable causes, instead of scarecrows chortling about killing 'rag heads!'

On behalf of Democrats, I will say this: we are interested in understanding the enemy in order to solve problems. This does not make us unpatriotic or treasonous! I believe that once you understand people's motivations, you can enter into diplomacy. “Keep your enemies close” is smart behavior, especially in time of war. I keep getting comments on my blog from people who twist my words and call me a traitor simply because I do not love the bomb.

Coulter's pathological hatred qualifies her for a mental institution, not the top of the bestseller list. What I'd like to know is how did America get to the point where a sociopath can become a best-selling author? Calling for the killing of a Supreme Court Justice or former president — isn't this criminal intent, and shouldn't this woman be in jail? Ann Coulter is about to blow, and I hope she doesn't own a gun.

CPAC: ANN COULTER'S CRIMINAL INTENT Part 2

God Bless our Vets and Troops. The WALTER REED HOSPITAL SCANDAL is more important than Ann Coulter, but I promised to get the whole Coulter-Borchers incident posted in Borcher's own words before we move on. Tonight's news was riveting as wounded vets testified against the bureacracy. One soldier, whose leg was blown off, was reported having to fill out 22 pages of paperwork before being treated.

Borchers caught this photo of the unknown "cameraman" who followed him, and seemed to be grinning most the time while Borchers was being harrassed by four CPAC/Coulter bodyguards.

This contains Dan Borchers entire statement of exactly what happened to him at CPAC on Friday.

By Lydia Cornell with Dan Borchers

On Friday March 2, 2007 at 11:15 a.m. I called my co-author Dan Borchers of Citizens for Principled Conservatism, http://www.principledconservative.org/ to see how he was doing.
He told me he was at CPAC, having a great time, and had gone to several seminars. I asked him if Ann Coulter was going to speak. He said she was scheduled for later in the day, but that it was probably standing room only. Dan said he was about to interview Mark Smith, an author. Forty-five minutes later, around 12 noon, I got a frantic call from Borchers. He sounded panicked and said, “I've just been assaulted and kicked out of the conference.” I said, “What? Why?” He said, “I don't know, they wouldn't say. But I was wrestled out of the hotel by four bodyguards, one I recognized as being Ann Coulter's - and they shoved me and tried to grab my name tag. They were incredibly hostile; one of them grabbed at me and cut my hand. They wouldn't say who they were.” I told him he should call the police, file a police report. He then told me he was being filmed the entire time, and the cameraman was grinning, as if it was a "set up." He said they forcibly pushed him out of the (Omni Shoreham) Hotel and told him he better get to his car. By the time he got to the parking lot, he said one of the bodyguards was waiting for him. He threatened him. You can read Dan's own account in his own words below.

This is an older photo of the same bodyguard who threatened, wrestled and grabbed Borchers, whom Borchers described as incredibly hostile and menacing. From Dan Borchers: “In September of last year, I sought press credentials for CPAC 2007. Floyd Resnick, Director of CPAC Security, denied those credentials. Resnick was described in Time magazine as “a bourbon-drinking ex-cop who says, quite believably, that he can kill with his bare hands.” I then registered online for a three-day conference pass, paying the $100 fee via credit card, and I received an email acknowledgement confirming my registration. That email acknowledgement was auto-signatured by CPAC Director Lisa De Pasquale.

On March 1, 2007, the morning of the first day of the conference, I arrived at the Omni Shoreham Hotel (2500 Calvert Street NW. Washington, District of Columbia 20008) and registered for the conference. I was immediately given a name badge with my name pre-printed on it: “Dan Borchers, Odenton, MD.”

That day and the next, I listened to speeches, toured the exhibition hall, took photographs, spoke with friends and conducted interviews. During both days, I spoke several times with Ian Walters, an employee of CPAC who has known me since 2002. Everything seemed fine.

At around 1 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2007, I spoke with author and attorney Mark W. Smith, whom I had previously interviewed a few years earlier at a different venue, and I asked him a few questions which he readily agreed to. His manner was friendly and accommodating. But then I dared to ask a question about Ann Coulter and the Paula Jones case. At that point, Smith interrupted the interview for about ten minutes, then returned and we resumed the interview.

In less than an hour, probably a few minutes before 2 p.m., I was accosted by Floyd Resnick and several other people. Resnick appeared out of nowhere and stood in front of me, body-blocking me. His manner was very confrontational and hostile as he demanded to know who I was. He asked me my name, turned my name badge over to see my name, and then tried to forcibly remove that name badge from around my neck.

At no time did any of the individuals identify themselves by name.

Resnick insisted that I leave the premises and claimed that I was not authorized to be there. I told him that I had registered and paid to attend the conference. He said that my money had been refunded. All the while he insisted that I leave as he kept trying to get my name badge.

After insisting that I be able to retrieve my belongings, Resnick and his crew rushed me to the area where my belongings were located. Resnick continued to try to get my name badge, struggling with me. Once again, at no point did anyone offer any identification or credentials, so I was reluctant to relinquish the one proof of authorization that I had in my possession.

My belongings were near the booth for Muslims for America. I had to pass by the co-founder of that organization, Muhammad Ali Hasan (his phone number is 310-770-6953), to get my possessions.

I reached into my pocket to get my digital voice recorder in order to document what was taking place. At that point, my name badge was in my left hand extended far from Resnick, who then lunged forward, his body against mine, as he ripped the name badge from my hand. It was at that time that my hand was cut - a very minor cut - between my thumb and forefinger.

The Chief of Security for Omni Shoreham was also there. He didn't give me his name, though he later gave his title. He was conciliatory, stating that I would have to go through CPAC for any redress against them, but he was also firmly insistent that I leave the premises because I was not a guest of the hotel. They escorted me out through the curtain separating the basement exhibit hall from a maintenance area and exiting the building, past trash cans and parking. They carefully avoided all of the press in the area, yet throughout this incident, another person was filming the entire event from the beginning.

I repeatedly demanded that I get a copy of that video and the person who later identified himself as the chief of security for the hotel kept reassuring me that I would be given a copy.

We arrived outside the front entrance of the hotel. I was refused re-admittance to the hotel, blocked by their words and their bodies. The Omni Shoreham Chief of Security took my coat check and retrieved my coat, giving it to me.

While he was retrieving my coat, I kept asking the other men, as they circled around me, who they were and why they were doing this. They refused to identify themselves. Resnick did not give me his name, but he eventually told me that he was the chief of security for CPAC and that he was the one who had denied my press credentials. (That's how I know his name.) Meanwhile, we had quite an audience with people at the hotel entrance questioning themselves about what was taking place before their very eyes.

I attempted to take a picture of Resnick at 2:05 p.m., but that photo did not turn out (perhaps the FBI can recover the digital photo). I did take a picture of the cameraman at 2:06 p.m.

After receiving my coat, I was told to leave. I left, walked down the driveway, turned right on Calvert Street, crossed 24th Street and waited at the intersection for the light to change so that I could cross Calvert Street toward the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan metro station.

The cameraman was still filming me! Students at that intersection were staring in wonder at what was taking place, asking each other what was going on.

The light changed, I crossed the street and took the two escalators down to the metro station. I turned back to see if the cameraman was still there. He wasn't. Instead, one of Resnick's people, still unidentified, was stalking me. I approached him. He told me I'd better get on the train. He refused to answer my questions or identify himself. Nor did he say what would happen if I did not get on the train, though he ominously held his cell phone conspicuously ready to put to his ear.

As I reached into my pocket, my mysterious stalker threatened me! He said, “If you take out your camera, I'll smash it into a thousand pieces.”

I turned, went through the turnstile and spoke to the metro attendant who was on duty. Turning, I pointed to my stalker and said, “That man is harassing me.” I then briefly explained the situation and the verbal threat. I pulled out my camera to take a photo and my stalker turned and walked away, putting his cell phone to his ear.

After getting the name of my metro station witness, I took that metro train to where my car was parked. At that time I discovered the bleeding cut to my hand. However minor, it is evidence of the assault (photo taken at 2:34 p.m.).

I called the DC police at 2:46 p.m. (cell phone time). A unit arrived about one hour later. I told them my story and showed them the cut on my hand, but they were unable to help because they were from a different district. The name of one of the officers was Officer Douglas A. McAndrew (Badge # 2471).

It is worth noting that Floyd Resnick, Director of CPAC Security, is also Ann Coulter's personal bodyguard and that CPAC Director Lisa De Pasquale is also one of Ann Coulter's publicists. They are seeking to silence me, a conservative who is critical of Ann Coulter.

On March 3, 2007, I received a certified letter from CPAC refunding my registration fee. They had mailed it on Saturday, February 24, 2007, but it didn't arrive at the Odenton Post Office until March 2, 2007, while I was at CPAC. I did not receive that letter until Saturday, March 3, 2007, the day after being accosted at the CPAC convention.

In that letter, Lisa De Pasquale cites my “past behavior at CPAC” as the reason for not permitting me at CPAC, without describing what that behavior was. It was, of course, my CPAC 2002 press kit critical of Ann Coulter.

On March 5, 2007, I spoke with Rafaello McKeython, Chief of Security for the Omni-Shoreham Hotel (202-234-0700) and one of the four individuals copied on De Pasquale's letter to me. [Floyd Resnick was also copied on that letter.] When I asked for a copy of the tape, Mr. McKeython said: “I didn't promise you a tape. They haven't gotten a copy for me yet. I don't even have a copy for myself. They just finished their conference on Saturday and I was off that day. I asked the gentlemen for a copy. Call me back on Wednesday and I should have it by then.”

At approximately 1:50 p.m., I spoke with Police Officer A. DeLosSantos (Badge # 2271) of the Third District. After describing the incident, Officer De LosSantos refused to file a police report on this incident and refused to initiate an investigation into what took place.” - Dan Borchers

The original letter accepting Borcher's registration, sigined by Lisa de Pasquale, as well as photographs Borchers took while being manhandled, are available upon request.

Note: Borchers and I been collaborating on a couple of projects together, including a book from a left wing and right wing Christian perspective. I am not at liberty to discuss the project here. Dan Borchers is a lifelong Republican, a conservative military veteran, whose only crime is being morally offended at the way conservatism has been ruined by people like Coulter, who claims to be a Christian, but indulges in hate-speak and amoral, felonious behavior. He believes it is his moral obligation to bring attention to this, and that "evil triumphs when good men do nothing."

Borchers is the most mild-mannered, humble Christian. He is critical of the way Ann Coulter has "mainstreamed extremism" and has written articles about her. He accused her of plagiarizing her early books, and at the CPAC conference two years ago, he tried to distribute press kits calling for Coulter to stop her hate speak.

Just a few hours ago, my friend Dan Borchers — a conservative Christian who is writing a book about Ann Coulter's "extermination speak" — was bodily wrestled out of CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) by four of Ann Coulter's bodyguards. More below.... but first this:

  • This Saturday morning, March 3, we will interview Paul Waldman of Media Matters on his amazing new book "BEING RIGHT IS NOT ENOUGH: What Progressives Must Learn From Conservative Success." Our show, Basham And Cornell Progressive Talk is broadcast LIVE at 9 am PST Saturday mornings on 1230 AM KLAV in Las Vegas, simulcast on the internet. Last Saturday February 24, we had the pleasure of interviewing former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega, author of the new bestseller "U.S. vs BUSH" The Case for Impeachment. It was a fascinating interview.

Doug Basham was on Lou Dobbs last week as one of America's "top talkers." Check out Doug's site for a list of all the incredible guests he has interviewed and see what Senate Majority leader Harry Reid, Pat Buchanan, Joe Conason, Daniel Ellsberg, Catherine Crier, Helen Thomas, Caspar Weinberger, Lou Dobbs, Congress people and best-selling authors say about Doug Basham: Basham Radio

ANN COULTER'S CRIMINAL INTENT AT CPAC continued...
Two of these goons claimed they were CPAC security, but Borchers recognized the most hostile one as Coulter's longtime bodyguard. It appeared that they staged the whole thing, for they were following him with a camera. During the altercation, they cut Borcher's hand, tried to pry his name tag and credentials off his neck, physically WRESTLED him out of the hotel, and shoved him. Why? Borchers couldn't get a straight answer out of the four guards, except "you are not permitted to be here."

Borcher's crime: asking a question of another author (Mark Smith) about Ann Coulter's involvement in the Paula Jones case. Borchers spent money, bought expensive tickets, took time off work and traveled from Maryland as he does every year, to be at CPAC. Lisa DePasquale, the head of CPAC and Human Events, sent Borchers his tickets and wrote him a nice letter welcoming him to the conference. He is a lifelong Republican, a conservative military veteran, whose only crime is being morally offended at the way conservatism has been ruined by people like Coulter, who claims to be a Christian, but indulges in hate-speak and amoral, felonious behavior. The news needs to know about this. More to come.
