PEACE IS SEXY * OBJECTS OF CREATION

At the Pentagon peace rally the other day, a Republican protestor against the protestors held up a sign saying "PEACE SUCKS." I know it isn't sexy to stop arguing or fighting. I know it's more fun to gossip, vent, scream, yell and find fault with others. I know it is more exciting to watch a train wreck than a healing, but it doesn't help heal anything, in fact it keeps us stuck. Bad news proliferates because of our constant nurturing of it. I'm not saying stop shining a light on the bad guys like Rove, Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, Delay, and corrupt corporations. I'm saying let's also uplift each other by seeing the hope that is right around the corner. We need to see our innate goodness and know that truth will thrive as good people come into power.

JOY
I have been experiencing moments of pure joy lately. It all started when I consciously decided to shift my thought to seeing the beautiful in life. Believe me it hasn't been easy, in light of all the bad news in the world. But ever since I took a class in spiritual physics (metaphysics) I began to practice "reversing my thought" and looking up. Literally looking up at the treetops, at the higher laws in operation. In other words, the spiritual invisible goodness running things. Now I'm madly in love with life, people, trees, flowers, nature — and I'm seeing things I never saw before! It's amazingly beautiful out there. I'm seeing more and more beautiful objects of creation.

I have also shed my jealousy of others and have begun to see everything with new eyes. Suddenly a new sense of compassion and love for strangers in the news and on the street — even people who seem gruff and don't smile back. I saw a sad-looking Hispanic gardener on our street the other day, and I silently blessed him. He looked up and beamed back at me. Think of all the people who seem invisible, as if no one cares about their burdens.

My ideal day: going on a road trip with the kids in the back of the minivan. We went to Tahoe over the holidays, and I can't tell you how majestic the snow-covered treetops are as you drive up to Lake Tahoe. It looks like heaven. In fact the town we went to is called "Heavenly." I get a calm peaceful feeling whenever I see a picture of Tahoe or Sedona, so I keep a postcard of Heavenly, right by my computer.

For the past few years I have not behaved in a very admirable way toward my husband. He used to annoy me when he wouldn't listen or care about anything I was interested in, especially politics. But I began to look at him differently. Everytime he annoyed me I would thank him for the good. I became sweeter and more loving and lately, I have fallen back in love with him. The kids are actually nicer too.

Joy is coming back. Despite the horror stories in the news, I truly believe that if we keep our eyes on the "beautiful, the good and the true" as Paul said -- if we "think on these things" and we will bring these into our lives proportionate to our thought.

Man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. - Mary Baker Eddy.

In reality, man is not material, he is spiritual. We are just so focused on the material, we forget where we came from and what we're made of. Man's misguided belief in duality (his belief in a devil, in "evil as a force" as big as God) causes most of his problems. But THERE IS NO OPPOSING FORCE. I know it seems like there is, and this is difficult to wrap your mind around, but try it. Try focusing on only the good in life. It will change everything. Only good is real and eternal. But as I said earlier, I know peace isn't always sexy.

Paul wrote, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). Paul’s list contains elements that all point to God.

Paul’s list contains “things that are honest,” “things that are just,” “things that are pure,” “things that are lovely,” “things that are of good report,” “virtue and praise.” And, he tells us to think on these things. All of these things lead us to a life that is peaceful in Christ. Paul tells us to “think on these things.” We are to keep them in our mind. He wrote in Romans, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).

We are to be anxious for nothing (Philippians 4:6): we are to put our trust in God. We are to pray to Him for everything: “but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6). And we are to meditate on Holy things.

This is THE SECRET. They just left out the Christ.

Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you Smile (except really mean thoughts about George Bush.)

  • Lydia the words of Christ paint a very beautiful way to live, and interact with others, which is why some totally ignore then even while they misuse his name by claiming their religion is what HE preached.

Jesus did warn us about them, so he must have known who they were back then, hopefully for them his grace and forgiveness is much larger than theirs.

  • Maybe because of the people in my ancestry, I tend to be moved internally more by places than by words.

Upon my first look at Lake Superior, I felt like I had come "home." The Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in any season, is exactly the kind of place that one can exist in and actually LIVE, rather than just "get by" in.

Were it not for the necessity of making a living, I would have retreated over the Mackinac Bridge a long time ago, and never returned. The Great Lakes, and their continued existence, are an affirmation of everything good in the world. They, themselves, are ALIVE.

  • BTW interesting new scandal "gap";

Shades of Rose Mary Woods? An 18 day gap?

I think a commenter in our document dump research thread may have been the first to notice that the emails released by the Justice Department seem to have a gap between November 15th and December 4th of last year.

(Our commenter saw it late on the evening of the dump itself -- see the comment date-stamped March 20, 2007 02:19 AM in the research thread)

The firing calls went out on December 7th. But the original plan was to start placing the calls on November 15th. So those eighteen days are pretty key ones.

Mike Allen spotted it this evening in the Politico.

  • I spent most of my time at the other end of Lake Ontario.

GREAT Fishing in the streams which feed it.

Also spent quite a while hiking and camping in the Adirondack Mountains, which are the best kept secret of new York State. An area the size of the State of Rhode Island, which is forever preserves by STATE CONSTITUTION in the 1890's, environmental conservation is NOT a new concept. From the time I spent there, I'm glad some back then did think about the environment and the future generations.

  • Happy happy, Joy joy, were getting a “congresspresent” from John Conyers….

House Committee authorizes subpoenas of White House officials

The House Committee investigating the firing of US Attorneys by the Justice Department authorized the issuing of subpoenas of top aides to President George W. Bush today in a voice vote. They stopped short of issuing the subpoenas themselves.

“The motion passed to authorize the chairman to issue subpoenas,” said a spokesperson for House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers

    (snip)

The authorization provided for subpoenas to “secure testimony at a hearing, and to obtain documents from these individuals, as well as unredacted documents from the Department of Justice and the White House, pursuant to the Committee’s investigation concerning the recent termination of United States Attorneys and related subjects” according to a notice at the House Judiciary Committee website.

Subpoenas for the following individuals would be covered by the authorization: D. Kyle Sampson, Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, William Kelley, and Scott Jennings.

  • I go back to Western New york about twice a year............i'm planning my next trip right now as matter of fact.........should be there in a few months.

Last year I took off an entire month in the summer for a cross country motorcycle trip to Buffalo NY..........i'll probably do the same this year.

By Blogger Mike, at 9:11 AM

  • I was only a little kid at the time but this does seem eerily like 1974...........I remember Nixons impeachment vividly, i was around 3 going on 4 and we were coming back from a vacation to the Adirondacks and the Nixon impeachment was on the radio for 6 hours straight..........i'll never forget that.

By Blogger Mike, at 9:17 AM

  • No Mike, the little Salmon river, the Salmon River Reservoir and the mouth of the Oswego river, which had the BEST perch fishing I have ever sen, two hooks, a couple of minnows, and two perch with in a minute.

The east end of Ontario which is much less developed than the Niagara end.

By Blogger clif, at 9:18 AM

  • Lydia if you want to talk spiritual places with AMAZING scenery you should really take your family to Machu Pichu the Lost City of The Incas........your kids are the perfect age and would love it!!!!!....its such a spiritual place.............that is if you arent apprehensive to leave the country after the 6 years of hatred for America Bush has created

I went there for 2 weeks in 2000 before 9/11 happened and it was such a multicultural place there were people from all over the world.........lots of Europeans and Australians who love coming to North and South America with their 12 weeks vacation and at that time at least loved Americans.

Repugs have such misguided values..........I constantly hear people like FF and TT worship the allmighty dollar and deride Europeans for taking 12 weeks vacation and placing time over money.........but I work extremely hard also but i took 8 weeks of vacation last year including taking off a month last summer for a cross country motorcycle trip to Buffalo........and to me spending time seeing the world or doing things you love with people you care about is worth far more than making a few extra bucks.

I work hard and play hard but anyone who puts a price tag on seeing the world, having leisure time to spend with people you care about doing things you love and values mere pieces of paper more than that is a fool.

So Americans earn a few more dollars than Europeans, is that worth 2-3 weeks vacation instead of 10-15..............I think not, money comes and goes, memories are irreplaceable.

By Blogger Mike, at 9:29 AM

Actually, when you come right down to it, they don't.

Oh, some salaries might be a bit higher here, but then you have to look at how much health care costs and education and things like that.

Too, what good is money if you're too f*cking tired to enjoy it?

By Blogger Carl, at 9:34 AM

  • Too, guys, as I pointed out today at my place, Americans have a very self-centric attitude when it comes to travel and sightseeing. A large majority don't have passports, and never have (altho more will have to now). And most Americans wouldn't travel internationally, apart from Europe, the Caribbean and maybe the Far East, if they're lives depended on it.,

    They're too scared.

By Blogger Carl, at 9:36 AM

  • Now, for amazing scenery, get your ass to a dive shop and learn how to scuba, then go to the Caribbean, like Bonaire or the Caymans (I like to visit my money). Or for you left coasters, Fiji or Truk Lagoon.

    THAT'S God's handiwork, incarnate.

I haven't exactly analyzed why, but I think it's because you remind me to take time out from the daily struggle against injustice to consider the more important things in life. You also remind me why I struggle, for the things you listed from Paul are the very things Bush and his minions work to destroy.

However by doing so, you'll change your reality, because thoughts are made up of positive and negative energy, and this directly affects your life. When you think a thought, your aura will magnify it with energy and put it out to the universe. By monitoring your thoughts, you'll have a conscious control over your future."

I love these lines: "when in truth, a small change in our attitude towards other people and other creatures would solve most of these problems at far lower cost than the billions and trillions of dollars we have and will spend to defend our 5% of the planet's land mass."

"True security only comes when you respect other people. When you start building walls to provide yourself security, eventually you find yourself a prisoner within those walls."

    I couldn't agree more.

  • RE: TomCat's great blog post. Glad you wrote about this because I haven't had time, and wanted to. It's so bizarre to me, this whole discussion on whether being gay is genetic or not.

My sister is gay, and has always been attracted to women.

I grew up with a gay best friend, Monroe (whom they modeled the Jim Bullock "Monroe" character after in our show (Too Close for Comfort). He was clearly the stereotypical effeminate gay male, with a passionate love of Broadway musicals and bright colors, supremely gifted in the arts and in comedy. He was BORN that way, and if one had tinkered with his DNA, he might have lost his gifts.

I am so sick of people casting stones. They need to tend to their own lives, improving their view of their fellow man, and seek the good.

  • BTW analuseless, It takes TWO votes to remove the sitting chairpersons of the committees and majority leader position, since they already had the vote for the senate in the 110th congress the only way they can change that is BY a reversal of the true majority, and one vote does NOT do that son.

besides after this investigation really gets traction, and Joe Lierman sees the re-pubie's falling deeper and deeper into the morass, especially If Pete Domenici gets shown to have tried to interfere with an on going federal investigation he MIGHT be leaving; and since Bill Richardson is the sitting Governor, they number of re-pubies in the senate just might fall further, let alone the very Idea some moderate re-pubies might decide their fortunes are better served Like Jim Jeffors were, as independents.......

You've been so wrong for so long, most people can foretell the future, just by expecting the opposite of what you post son.

  • More than 5 million Americans are known to have Alzheimer's.

This is a 10% increase in the past five years.

The nation is on track for a skyrocketing rise in Alzheimer's as baby boomers start turning 65 in 2011.

Deaths among Alzheimer's patients has risen 33% in 4 years.

  • Looks like the ratbastard right wingers have nothing to discuss in the face of their entire administration falling apart.

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:08 PM

  • Here. You can discuss this.

For some "mysterious" reason we are missing 18 days of emails out of the thousands of emails provided, and oddly enough, those 18 days just happen to be the very same where the flurry of activity took place with regards to the firing scandal.

But then, suddenly today, ONE string of emails from that period, one short, tiny string, magically appears, and guess what? It supports the Presidents position.

Problem is, this is just a few emails from that period, but the problem goes further.

In these emails, for some odd reason, BRENT WARD SUDDENLY FORGETS HOW TO SPELL HIS OWN NAME.

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:13 PM

  • Here, let me say that again.

In these emails that suddenly appeared today, Brent Ward FORGETS HOW TO SPELL HIS OWN FIRST NAME.

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:15 PM

  • People often mispell words, but the one word it has been shown is almost never mispelled, is a persons own first name.

Your brain just won't let you do it.

So why then did Brent Ward sign his name, "BRANT"?

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:17 PM

  • I considered a typo, but the E key is not next to the key.

Also the email take special care to offer a cheesy Thanksgiving message, yet when he signs his name to the message, he mispells his OWN FIRST NAME?

    :|

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:19 PM

  • People do not mispell their own first names, PARTICULARLY when SIGNING them.

A persons signature, both type written and handwritten is burned into your brain. It is so unlikely for a well educated man to do that I can't even begin to factor the odds.

But suppose someone else wrote the message? Suppose someone else hacked into the server, or broke into the server room where the mail server resides, and changed the message to say what he wanted?

Wouldn't that person most likely be hurried? Rushed? He wouldn't probably have much time. And he'd be nervous. I would be easy for such a person in mispell SOMEONE ELSES first name.

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:23 PM

  • So we are left with two possibilities why Brent Ward mispelled his own first name.

    A. He didn't mispell it. Someone else did.

    B. He is too stupid to sign his own name.

Please check one of the above.

  • Nobody is talking about this yet but me, so maybe theres a perfectly logical explanation.

But I'd like to hear it.

When you factor in the administrations need to deflate Congress's case for subpeonas, along with the questionable circumstances this email string came forward, by itself and after a long delay, then you can see there is at least reason to want some answers.

And to get those answers, Congress needs to subpeona the people who wrote those emails, and ASK them.

See Chimpleton, that's the advantage to doing your own thinking, instead of wauiting for Malkin, Slanthead, or C*****r to do it for you. We can have the most fantastic conversations on almost anything under the sun! Ain't it great?

By Anonymous JollyRoger, at 7:31 PM

  • How does a man who has signed his name about a billion times via email in the course of his career, suddenly mispells his own name.

People don't mispell their own first names. They just don't.

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:31 PM

  • We can have great conversations, but I seemed to be doomed to eternal typos.....

By Anonymous JollyRoger, at 7:32 PM

  • A typo is one thing Jolly Roger. But don't let that dismiss this.

You don't "typo" your own first name. You might miss the key, but your brain won't let your eye get past it. Its your name. Its burned into your brain.

I cannot see such a well educated man who signs his own name daily, mispelling his name in his own email signature.

    It is highly dubious.

It at least calls for the man who wrote the email to be questioned to find out if he did indeed write the email.

By Blogger I WORFEUS, at 7:37 PM

  • I have never even typo'd my handle, much less my first name.

People don't do that. Its your name. And the signature stands out. He just signs it, "BRANT".

    But thats not his name.

Like I said, there is one of two answers.

    A. He didn't mispell it. Someone else did.

    B. He is too stupid to sign his own name.

  • Worf is right. Why would someone who has signed or typed their name all their life, suddenly misspell it?

By Blogger Larry, at 8:13 PM

  • John Stewert just Bitch slapped Bolton as a FOOLE who doesn't know WTF he is talking about, and Doris Kern was very credible which Bolton was NOT.
